The West Rand Amateur Radio Club is the proud host of the Africa FT4 DX Contest and the SARL Top Band QSO Contests

Amateur Radio, also known as Ham Radio, is a one-of-a-kind multi-faceted hobby. It allows licensed operators to communicate worldwide without using telephones or the internet.

There are many activities including contests, satellite work, and emergency communications.

Amateur Radio requires a licence issued by ICASA. You must pass the Radio Amateur Exam (RAE).

Courses are offered in January and June at the West Rand Amateur Radio Club.

Next RAE Exam: 16 May 2026
Next Course: 13 January 2026
